More than any another Christian author of the 20th century, D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) has shaped my approach to the Christian life. His take on the Gospel, revival, the work of the Spirit, the relationship of church and state, his love for history and his being an “18th-century man”—all of these have had a profound impact on my life and thinking. I have been shaped by other figures in church history—Basil of Caesarea and Andrew Fuller, to name but two—but of 20th-century authors, Lloyd-Jones has been the most influential on my thought.
On this day, when we recall his going to be with our Lord, I remember his life with deep thankfulness.
