Upon my first introduction to Calvinism, I recall ardently using the arguments of John Wesley, whom I had been studying at the time, to counter the views being presented to me.
Again, read Twisted Truths - Distorted Bible Doctrines Untangled by James E. Kyles and then tell me that you still embrace the lie of Calvanism. John Calvin was a very evil man and his doctrinal belief came from Agustine, another very evil man. So where is the Holy Spirit in all of this. Debated for thousands of years or not is not the issue here. One of us has the Holy Spirit and one of us don't... a disagreement proves that one of us is without Holy Spirit guidance and false Biblical understanding... so who might that be? Not me. Again, read the book and then reply. Thanks.
Okay. So you allowed yourself to be deceived. Big deal. I would suggest reading "Twisted Truths - Distorted Bible Doctrines Untangled" by James E. Kyles. You can find it on Amazon.com. Then see if you embrace Calvanism.
Christians believe that salvation is through the Lord Jesus Christ and is a matter of faith and divine grace. Salvation is through Christ alone and grace alone. The details of how saving faith and divine grace operate have been the subject of significant discussion for two thousand years, especially since Augustine had to reply to Pelagius. As a result, Augustinianism and Calvinism are large houses and not everyone in those houses agrees on some of the details of salvation (does grace precede faith, for whom did Christ die, etc.). In fact, some who called themselves Arminian, like the Wesley brothers, often sound like Calvinists, and some like Andrew Fuller, for whom I have must respect, have been accused of being Arminian. All of this to say, that there is much complexity regarding the details and given the differences of opinion and the length of time these matters have been debated in church history, a degree of mutual forbearance is required.
